The Keratron, the Scout's big brother, consists of the video keratographer mounted on a joystick base (as the table top Scout). Both systems use the same Placido cone, capture technique and software.
The Keratron takes up the same space as a slit lamp. The vk head is connected to a desktop or laptop personal computer via the USB port for image capture and processing. The computer is available for other functions as your needs dictate. With virtually no moving parts, the Keratron is extremely reliable.
The Keratron's patented auto image capture system insures +/- .10D variability between images …even when mis-aligned. Simply move the unit towards the patient and image capture is automatic. The Keratron's image capture system actually senses the corneal vertex, causing the system to "fire". The vertex is used as the starting point for the ARC STEP. Since the Keratron knows the location of both the vertex and pupil center, the amount of decentration is reported. Decentration is important when making refractive surgery and contact lens decisions. This method of reporting the exact location of the vertex is a Keratron exclusive.
